A surgical team led by senior urologist Dr. Rajeev Chaudhari recently achieved a breakthrough by successfully performing a Robotic Retroperitoneal Nephrectomy on an elderly patient at Ruby Hall Clinic, Pune. The procedure was necessary as the patient's kidney had become completely non-functional, but traditional surgery was deemed too risky due to the patient's age and health status. Utilizing the state-of-the-art Da Vinci Robotic System, the team benefited from high-quality 3D visualization, which allowed for precise surgical margins and minimal blood loss without the need for large incisions. In retroperitoneal surgery, Dr Chaudhari did not enter the peritoneal cavity, thus protecting the vital organs of the abdomen and reaching the kidney. This is a far safer approach than the intraperitoneal approach. The patient can safely go home much earlier from the hospital. This advanced, minimally invasive approach resulted in a remarkably swift recovery; the patient experienced minimal pain and was discharged quickly after the operation.
